An investment group headed by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has bought Spanish football club FC Andorra, it has been confirmed.

The purchase is Pique’s first venture into football club ownership but his playing career will continue – the 31-year-old is contracted to Barcelona until the summer of 2022.

  1. FC Andorra was founded in 1942 and is located in the country of Andorra, a small nation bordered by France and Spain.
  2. The team currently plays in the Catalan Primera (Group 2), which is the fifth tier of the Spanish league system.
  3. The third tier is the highest league division FC Andorra has competed in.
  4. FC Andorra beat Barcelona on their way to winning the Copa Catalunya in 1993/94.
  5. The club’s home stadium has a capacity of just 500.

According to AP News, Pique’s investment group, Kosmos, has also reached an agreement with the International Tennis Federation to change the format of the Davis Cup.

Kosmos has invested in a number of other industries, including esports, video games and isotonic drinks.

Former Barcelona players Gabri and Albert Jorquera will manage FC Andorra after a spell together at Swiss side FC Sion.

Spanish outlet Sport claims ex-Barcelona academy player Adria Vilanova – the son of former Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova, who passed away in 2014 – will become one of the first signings of the Kosmos era.
