Newcastle fans have hailed Solomon Rondon as the ‘best centre-forward the club has had since Demba Ba’.

The Venezuelan scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Magpies a 1-0 half-time lead away to Watford on Saturday, heading home in the 29th minute and also having another strike ruled out for offside just 11 minutes later.

Rondon’s Newcastle importance: Five key things to know

  1. After scoring just 28 goals in 119 games for West Brom, Rondon moved to Newcastle on loan in the summer.
  2. The 29-year-old is already a fan-favourite and is Newcastle’s top scorer so far this season with six.
  3. Rondon has also been directly involved in six of Newcastle’s last eight goals.
  4. Opened the scoring in Newcastle’s away tie at Watford on Saturday, sparking fan calls for his deal to be made permanent.
  5. Some Magpies fans even claimed Rondon is the best striker they’ve had since Demba Ba.

That goal has taken Rondon comfortably clear as Newcastle’s top scorer so far this season, with defender Ciaran Clark and forwards Joselu and Ayoze Perez well behind on just two goals.

It also means that the 29-year-old has been directly involved in six of Newcastle’s last eight Premier League goals, scoring five and assisting one.

And Rondon’s form has certainly got Newcastle fans purring about the former Zenit Saint Petersburg man, with calls for the Magpies to make his loan from West Brom permanent in the coming transfer window.
