Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed why he refused to update club television channel MUTV on the side’s team news ahead of their clash with Arsenal.

Mourinho’s side host Arsenal on Wednesday at Old Trafford with United without a win in their last three in the Premier League and the Gunners coming off the back of a sensational 4-2 north London derby-day victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

United are languishing in eighth position in the table, far behind their usual league target, whereas Arsenal climbed into the top four at the expense of their north London rivals.

Mourinho has had many tense moments with the media over the years, especially across the past 12 months. This time, his frosty approach was with club broadcaster MUTV.

After asking Mourinho for any updates regarding team news for Wednesday’s fixture, Mourinho refused to reveal any updates, claiming that if Arsenal doesn’t, why should he?

“I don’t want to update you, I would like Arsenal TV to make the same questions but they don’t, they hide everything from the inside, so why should I answer to you,” he said, addressing MUTV in Tuesday’s press conference, according to the Independent.

“We are going to be in difficulty again to build the team. We are again going to have to make adaptations and compensations to try to give some balance to the team.”

United’s poor Premier League campaign

No wonder Mourinho is still in a confrontational mood.

The Red Devils have been unimpressive in the Premier League as we enter the Christmas calendar. They have lost four of their 14 Premier League games so far this season against the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and arch-rivals Manchester City.

Two of those sides – Spurs and City – are rivals to United for the top-four positions so losing to them hasn’t done their chances any good at all.

On top of that, they have won just three out of the last nine Premier League games, scoring 22 goals and conceding 23.

The cherry on the cake for Mourinho is that they are already 19 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

At least he’s still smiling…
